Viral Marketing with Free Stuff
The very idea that you are getting something free can be enough to attract thousands of people to take an action. Imagine what would happen if you promised the same thing on your website! If you promise that you are going to send your reader a completely free perk for a few simple e-mail address or registration at your website, do you think that people will get in touch with you and sign up at your website? Yes they will, if you offer something useful and of real value that is. And this is where viral marketing wins out. You will find that there are thousands of websites already giving away free stuff for everyone. What encourages people to stay on your site? What will keep their interest and get them to take an action before they leave?
Free Stuff of course.
People love free stuff, even if they have no use for it and you will find that a powerful method of attracting people to your site is through the word FREE. If you can promise your reader that you are going to give out a free service or product, then you can easily make sure that the reader will pay you attention and will give you positive feedback by signing up to your irresistible free offer.
How can you make a viral marketing campaign offering free stuff better?
Each step of the viral marketing campaign must be effective. For example, there was a website that was especially calibrated for veterinarians. The site was offering fresh organic dog food that was couriered directly to the customer’s house daily. They had a database of local vet names and they sent a mail out to them offering free samples that they could then promote to their patients and pet owners. But over the next one-week of launch they noticed that the number of people who registered for the free sample was much more than the local database of vets! This is when we realized that the free samples they were offering had been picked up a website that was geared towards catching and promoting free offers. As a result, they had thousands of pet owners from all over the country asking for free samples. Now it was not really feasible for them to send samples to every person who asked but they didn’t want to lose the traffic either. As a result, they shifted the incoming links to their home page resulting in a huge boost in incoming traffic and much higher website rankings and sales. This wasn’t really a viral marketing campaign but it did turn out to be really effective. As a result here are a few points that they noted-
o Make it easy for the person to find really cheap and free gifts. Use a separate pop up page with action and power words on it like FREE, RIGHT NOW, GET IT NOW etc
o Keep the restrictions as low as possible by making the process simple and easy to carry out, just a first name and e-mail address required.
o Reward the users that do register for free stuff by sending them discount coupons, newsletters, referral awards, and of course, your affiliate link offers etc.
o Make sure that readers realize that they are getting a great deal and a much better one if they stick around after registering.
o No body wants useless free stuff so make sure that what you are offering is useful and carries some value, or no one will register.
After registration encourage them to pass on your stuff and stay registered for much better free stuff and great offers coming. Email them with useful related content and free resources that they can use and pass on, ensuring that you have your main offers visible also. This is viral marketing in action.
